How is the program structured?

We will spend 7 days a week together, for 8 hours daily. We will establish a strong foundation during this time and then gradually progress. This concept of a foundation applies to both the yoga poses and the knowledge you will gain. You can expect to learn about topics such as anatomy and alignment, different styles of yoga, the history of yoga, yoga philosophy (with a focus on the Yoga Sutra), the Sanskrit language, as well as skills like meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises), and teaching methodology.

The program focuses on vinyasa (flow), and over the 4 weeks, we will methodically teach you the skills and information you need to succeed in your own personal practice or as a new teacher!

Each day has a similar schedule. We start at 8 am with yoga sutras and then have one practice-based session and one information-based session before lunch. Lunch is an hour, and then there is one practice-based session, one information-based session, and one experiential session in the afternoon. Students are also required to attend all of the public classes on the studio schedule (taught by one of the teachers in the program).

The themes of Vedic Chant bring our attention to the wonder and vastness of the natural universe and its forces. Through chant and meditation, we will explore and celebrate the relationship between human beings and the elements of nature. The poetic images found in the Veda illuminate the complex relationship between the human spirit and these elements – earth, wind, fire, water, sun, and moon. Using the tools of chant and meditation, we will explore practices that connect and keep us close to ourselves, each other, and our source.

Cheryl Oliver is a dedicated student and teacher of Astanga Vinyasa, Sanskrit language, and Vedic chant. Through her teaching, she makes the recitation of the Veda, a powerful healing and meditative process, available to all as a direct experience of tapas and Dharana. Cheryl offers workshops, teacher training, and retreats throughout the United States and abroad.
