Summer Teacher Training
Yoga Alliance Certified, 200HR
A 200 hour intensive over 28 days!
How is the program structured?
We will be together 6 days a week, 8 hours a day, and over that period of time, we will lay a foundation and then build on that step by step. This idea of a foundation applies to poses as well as to the information, so you can look forward to being exposed to topics including anatomy and alignment, styles of yoga, history of yoga, yoga philosophy (with a focus on the Yoga Sutra), the Language of Sanskrit and skills including meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises) and teaching methodology.
The focus of the program is on vinyasa (flow) and over the month we will methodically teach you the skills and information you need to be successful in your own personal practice or as a new teacher!
Each day has a similar schedule. We start at 9 am with yoga sutras, and then have one practice-based session and one information-based session before lunch. Lunch is an hour, and then there is one practice-based session, one information-based session, and one experiential session in the afternoon. Students are also required to attend the 5:30 pm class (taught by one of the teachers in the program) at least twice a week, and on Fridays, the students teach the 5:30 pm class!
The themes of Vedic Chant bring our attention to the wonder and vastness of the natural universe and the forces operating in it. The chant and meditation we will explore celebrate the relationship between human beings and the elements of nature. The poetic images found in the Veda illuminate the complex relationship between the human spirit and these elements – earth, wind, fire, water, sun, and moon. Using the tools of chant and meditation we will explore practices that connect and keep us close to ourselves, each other, and our source.
Cheryl Oliver is a dedicated student and teacher of Astanga Vinyasa, Sanskrit language, and Vedic chant. Through her teaching, she makes the recitation of the Veda, a powerful healing and meditative process, available to all, as a direct experience of tapas and Dharana. Cheryl offers workshops, teacher training, and retreats throughout the United States and abroad.
